SNOW RIDING!!!! it was sooo f@#%ing cold but it had to be done, it was about -7 aparently, and i was not prepared, i was only in my normal riding gear

this is the result of riding in the snow, i was in soo much pain, my fingers were that numb they hurt and could not feel the brakes going down a steep fire road, bit sketchy!

yes it is possible to ride in the gondola, we tried it and managed to crash more in there than on the hill..??

vancouver island

one saturday night, me and a freind had a few too many drinks and decided it would be a great idea to go on an adventure to vancouver island as i had 3 days off and didnt want to waste them.we followed through with the idea and headed off on sunday afternoon and caught the ferry to naniamo on the island. it took about 3 hrs from whistler including the ferry trip. the ferry was aweseome and saw a beautiful sunset, no whales tho!

we went straight to tofino on the sunday night and woke up on the beach. it was a cute little bach town, which is famous for surfing. did some tourist stuff and slowly headed south toward victoria which is the capital of BC.Saw some pretty cool things along the way, even a place called Mclean mill, so naturally had to go check it out, and it was an old saw mill that they had done up and did tours of. old mate frank took us on a tour and suprisingly it was very interesting. he told us all about the logging industry etc.

then then headed to some beaches and lakes along the way untill we ended up near victoria and stayed in a rainforest which was really pretty.

victoria was pretty too, saw some old buildings and parliament house.we didnt get to spend much time in victoria as we had to get back to whistler and work.boo.

but had a really good time, great adventures and now i can tick vancouver island off the list!!

the sliding centre

we were lucky enough to get to see an exclusive training session of the canadian skeleton team at the whistler sliding centre, where they have the bobsled and luge aswell for the olympics.I had no idea what skeleton was,so i found out that back in the 60s they made up a board from parts of a bobsled (skeleton) and created this crazy new sport. They are lying face forward and are only holding on with tiny handles, they have no brakes and get up to 150km an hr, and the only way they can stop is to dig their spikes into the ice thats on the shoes. The ice that they slide on at the time i was there was -11 degrees but obviously gets colder in the winter and harder and then they go faster!!! so that was out little work excursion.there is a video down the bottom, check it out!!

the olympic store

this is my place of work at THE olympic store in the village.. its a fun place to work as you can tell by the pics, we have a bobsled in the shop which was used in the 80s, and every tourist wants a pic in it and with all the mascots of course. the pic below is me posing for the next whistler tourist magazine..i had to do it by default, so maybe ill become famous?!haha

whistler snow!

so this is the first time i had seen snow in 20 years, thats why im acting like a kid..well i always do anyway!!! this is at whistler peak at the end of september, the snow has well and truely melted and come back a few times since then. i actually saw the snow falling on sunday and that was amazing!!
